We met Rabbi Moshe Brennan on Rosh HaShannah this year, when he came to our apartment complex in order for us to participate in the mitzvah of hearing the shofar.

Since then, he has become a true friend, and constantly seeks to  involve us in community events and mitzvah opportunities.

We were so touched when he and his lovely wife Devorah hosted us in their family Sukkah, and we were uplifted and inspired when attending a Torah class.

But nothing prepared us for the love and dedication we witnessed during Chanukkah.

Rabbi Moshe suggested we host a Chanukkah candle lighting party at our apartment complex.

Our neighbors are a diversified bunch, and there was no way of knowing how many people would show up. Rather than renting one of the expensive meeting rooms in our building (which Rabbi Moshe generously offered to pay for), we decided to have the party in our own apartment.

Despite their very busy Chanukkah schedule, and not knowing how many people would be there, Rabbi Moshe and Devorah took the time to prepare and run a lovely evening.

We ended up having 20 neighbors crowd into our apartment!

We all were from different backgrounds, lifestyles, and levels of observance. Yet Rabbi Moshe &  Devorah found a way to connect to each one of us.

They provided all the platters of jelly donuts, crackers and cheese. Rabbi Brennan demonstrated how to light the Chanukkah candles, and passed out “Chanukkah in a Box” kits replete with menorahs, candles and instructions!

It was a night of Jewish unity, friendship, and fun.  In fact, it was one of the best parties we ever had!

We are already talking about plans for a Purim party!

With much appreciation to Rabbi and Mrs. Brennan,

Joseph & Robin Fischer
